2013 Plain Awesome Sponsors

Sponsors make our world go round. Without them, there would be no Plain Green Conference. Over 82% of Plain Green 2010 attendees we surveyed said they would rather do business with Plain Green sponsors – we hope you will too.

SDSUSDSU College of Education and Human Sciences
Helen Van Zante Endowment

Dr. Helen Johnson Van Zante (1906-1990), a distinguished scientist and pioneering developer of the home microwave oven, grew up on a farm in Brookings County, SD. She attended South Dakota State College [SDSC] where she graduated with a degree in mathematics. Later, she pursued advanced graduate work in physics at Iowa State University, which was very unusual study for a woman in the 1930s, where she completed a doctor’s degree. While at SDSC, she studied traditional studio arts with Professor Ada B. Caldwell, which led to a lifelong avocation as a painter of still life, landscape, and genre subjects. In 1989, Van Zante received recognition from the South Dakota Board of Regents as a Centennial Alumni. She also established the substantial Van Zante Endowment to support visiting professors on such subjects as housing, home furnishings, and household technology, which the Interior Design program in the College of Education and Human Sciences developed along with the Department of Visual Arts.

Our Big Green Hero:

AveraAvera

Avera McKennan is an integrated health care delivery network that includes Avera McKennan Hospital & University Health Center in Sioux Falls, a 545-bed tertiary hospital, as well as the Avera Heart Hospital of South Dakota and the Avera Behavioral Health Center. The Avera McKennan network also includes 14 community hospitals, 75 clinics and other services in 50 communities throughout a four-state region. Avera McKennan is a member of Avera Health, a regional health care system with 300 locations in 97 communities in five states.

One of Avera McKennan’s strategic goals is to lead the region’s health care community in “going green.” The newly-constructed Prairie Center was designed and built around green principles, such as energy and water conservation and use of non-toxic building materials. Avera McKennan has a campus-wide recycling plan and energy conservation strategy, and uses no chemicals on the lawns around our buildings. We are proud to further the green movement across the Northern Plains as a sponsor of the Plain Green Conference.
